Man accidentally shoots self in S. Toledo

A police investigation found that a Toledo man who reported being shot in the Old South End overnight accidentally shot himself.

Police said that Mario Gonzales, 19, arrived at Toledo Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim reportedly told officers he was shot in the drive-thru at Taco Bell, 1422 Broadway, about 2:45 a.m., according to a police incident report.

Police said that the victim later said he got out of his car to get money from his pocket when he dropped his gun, which police later recovered at the scene.

A Toledo Hospital spokesman said he had no information about a patient by that name.
