BLUFFTON, Ohio — A Bluffton, Ohio, teenager was critically injured today in a two-car collision at the intersection of Hancock County Road 29 and State Rt. 235 in Orange Township.

Schuyler Dunlap, 16, was in critical condition in the intensive car unit at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, after the 10 a.m. crash, a hospital spokesman said this afternoon.

The young Dunlap was in the front seat of a car driven by Christian Bame, 15, also of Bluffton, who was operating with a temporary instructor’s permit, when the youth failed to heed a stop sign and struck another vehicle in the intersection driven by Gergory Winegardner, 43, of Ada, Ohio, according to a report from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Dunlap was transported to St. Rita’s by helicopter from the scene.

Both vehicles were severely damaged and towed from the intersection, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office issued a citation to Mr. Bame for driving without a valid driver’s license, operating with a permit only, and failure to stop at a posted stop sign.

The young Bame, Mr. Winegardner, and a passenger in his car, Nathan Winegardner, 15, were not injured.
