A single shot was fired today at the Toledo Correctional Institution, hitting a parked car.

Meredith Rinna, a warden assistant at the correctional facility, said one shot was fired toward a visitor who was leaving the institution at about 3 p.m. today. The shot hit a parked vehicle in the parking lot.

“Ohio State Highway Patrol is on the scene and is investigating,” Ms. Rinna said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Patrol Lt. John Altman said residents should not be concerned that there is a gunman on the loose at the institution, that the shooting did not from anywhere on the facility’s property. The lieutenant said at this point authorities have not determined whether the shot was intended for someone or was a random act.

One vehicle in the parking lot had a bullet hole through it, and there was a bullet found in the vehicle, he said. No one was in the car at the time of the shooting.

Further details were not immediately available.
