Bond continued for suspect in March crash
8/7/2012Bond was continued at $20,000 Monday for a 45-year-old Rossford man who is accused of crashing a pickup into a house in Rossford, getting out of the vehicle and stripping naked, then chasing down and grabbing a woman who was walking by, authorities said.
Anthony Parrish was being held in the Wood County jail in lieu of the bond on fourth-degree felony charges of vandalism of a business property and vandalism of an occupied structure. At his arraignment in Perrysburg Municipal Court, he was ordered held pending his preliminary hearing Aug. 14, deputies at the Wood County jail said. He was arrested Sunday after an investigation.
According to the original police report, the man choked the woman during the March 28 incident, but an ensuing investigation revealed that he grabbed her only, Rossford Police Chief Glenn Goss, Sr., said, so Mr. Parrish was not charged with assault.
Mr. Parrish suffered minor injuries during the incident and was treated and evaluated at Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center, Rossford police said.
Police said Mr. Parrish was driving a 2004 GMC pickup at a high rate of speed north on Oak Street about 8:10 p.m. when the pickup struck a curb as it approached a bend in the street, just southeast of Dixie Highway, becoming airborne.
The truck then struck a porch at a residence in the 100 block of Oak, landed on a car parked in the driveway, and slid into the side of an apartment building. The driver then exited the truck, stripped off his clothes, and began chasing an unidentified woman who was walking nearby, according to police.
Reports state that two neighbors tackled the man as he approached the woman and grabbed her. Police then arrived and restrained him, officers said.
Police did not say whether the woman was injured. The resident of the house and a resident in the apartment building, both of whom were inside their homes at the time of the crash, were not injured, police said.
Chief Goss said insurance companies paid about $125,000 to cover the property damage.
