Ottawa County sheriff offers citizens' academy

PORT CLINTON -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for its second Citizens' Partnership Academy, which is to start Sept. 26 and run for 10 weeks.

Subject matter will include patrol operations, victims' rights, and sex crimes. Participants will tour the sheriff's facilities, visit various divisions and specialty units, and be offered ride-alongs with deputies.

Classes are at 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 28 and last up to 2 1/2 hours, with dates subject to change for holidays or emergencies.

Applicants must pass a criminal background check and have valid Ohio driver's licenses.

Applications are available at the sheriff's office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays or via email from Capt. Brad York, byork@ottawacountysheriff.org.

Those accepted will be notified the week of Sept. 16.
