WHITEFORD, Mich. — A Monroe man was killed today after two semis collided on U.S. 223 in Whiteford Township, Mich.

Michael John Andrews, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash was reported to the sheriff’s office at 11:43 a.m. today.

Investigators determined that one of the tractor trailers was driving westbound on U.S. 223 and hit the back of another tractor trailer as it was turning left.

The semi that was attempting to turn left rotated and stopped on the south shoulder of the roadway facing east. The other trailer went left and rolled over.

Deputy Charles Myers, the first officer on scene, reported the rolled truck was fully engulfed in flames and the driver was trapped inside.

Mr. Andrews died in the fire, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver of the other tractor trailer, Randolph M. Perdue, 61, of Swea City, Iowa, was not injured, officials said.

Officials said the crash remains under investigation.
