Man shot in hip in East Toledo overnight

Toledo police today were looking for two men or teenage boys allegedly involved in an incident overnight, in which a man was shot in East Toledo, authorities said today.

Houston Hines, 24, of Rogers Street, was taken to Mercy St. Charles Hospital, Toledo police said. A hospital spokesman said she had no information about a person by that name.

Police said the victim told them he went out to get some air and was walking was walking in the 700 block of Boles Drive near East Broadway and Stillman streets about 1:27 a.m. when the pair walked up to him from from around a corner and approached him.

They then asked the victim his name and what he was doing at the residence, according to police. When he refused to answer, one of them pulled a gun and fired several shots, hitting him once in the hip with a bullet, police said.

The assailants were wearing all black, police said. Both were about 5 feet and 11 inches tall and wearing about 160 pounds, police said.

Police did not say what the motive was.

The incident remained under investigation. There was no word of arrests
