BOWLING GREEN -- A McComb, Ohio woman charged with faking a cancer diagnosis to gain financial support was arraigned in Bowling Green Municipal Court by video from the Wood County jail this morning.

Kimberlie Gustwiller, 38, was charged with theft. According to court documents, several thousand dollars were raised for Ms. Gustwiller, who allegedly was diagnosed with Stage IV non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She took possession of at least $1,000, according to police.

Police said they subpoenaed her medical records, which revealed “no evidence of any cancer or illness of that nature.”

An Oct. 20 benefit planned by the North Baltimore Eagles for Ms. Gustwiller has been canceled, although the organization said it still plans to hold a benefit but donate the money raised to “a truly deserving cause or person,” according to the Web site, TheNBXpress.com.
