Gunshots ruled cause of Toledo man's death

Jonathan Morris, Jr., a 22-year-old Toledo man who was fatally shot outside of the Ravine Park Village on Friday died of multiple gunshot wounds, an autopsy has revealed.

Mr. Morris was hit three times, two of which proved to be fatal after striking him in the right hip, said Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Diane Scala-Barnett.

The victim was shot as he walked from one apartment to another at the East Toledo apartment complex at 2:48 a.m. Friday, police said. He died about nine hours later at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Two more people were shot over the weekend, police reported.

Darian Highsmith, 29, was shot once in the left leg during a drive-by incident at Torrey Hill Drive and Milburn Avenue in South Toledo at about 5 p.m. Saturday, police said.

He was taken to Toledo Hospital where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

At about 11:20 p.m., Joanne Garza, 47, was shot in the left leg at Chestnut and Peck streets in North Toledo.

The victim was was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in a private vehicle, reports indicate. A hospital spokesman said Ms. Garza was treated and released.

No arrests have been in any of the three shootings.
