Monroe Township woman struck while waiting for daughter's school bus identified

MONROE -- A woman who died Friday after being struck by a teenage driver while waiting for her daughter's school bus in front of her home has been identified as Shelly Marie Deaton.

Ms. Deaton, 42, was killed after being struck by a southbound vehicle on Nobil Avenue between Kay Drive and West Albain Road in Monroe Township. Michigan State Police said she was waiting for a school bus to pick up her daughter at about 6:50 a.m. when she was struck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old driver, who was reportedly a student at Monroe High School, has yet to be identified.

Police have said that the victim's 14-year-old daughter did not witness the crash.
