Mom struck at school bus stop ID’d

MONROE — A woman who died Friday after being struck by a teenage driver while waiting for her daughter’s school bus in front of her home has been identified as Shelly Marie Deaton.

Ms. Deaton, 42, was hit by a southbound vehicle on Nobil Avenue between Kay Drive and West Albain Road in Monroe Township. Michigan State Police said she was struck while she was watching her daughter walk to the school bus stop down the street. Ms. Deaton was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old driver, who police said is a student at Monroe High School, hasn’t been identified. Neither she nor her sister, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was hurt seriously. Police have said the victim’s 14-year-old daughter did not see the accident.
