A man shot and killed himself during a standoff with Lucas County sheriff's deputies at his Monclova Township residence today, authorities said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Lucas County Sheriff's Office. His name was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Deputies responding to a report of a suicide attempt arrived at a residence in the 10200 block of Maumee Western Road shortly after the call came in at 1:11 a.m., sheriff's Sgt. Joseph Gorney said. Once they came to the front door, the barricaded man shot at them through the door, at which time they backed off and called a SWAT team, Sergeant Gorney said.

A SWAT team arrived and entered the house about 3:57 a.m., finding the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sergeant said.
