A Monclova Township man who reportedly shot and killed himself during a standoff with Lucas County sheriff’s deputies Thursday might have been depressed over a breakup with his girlfriend, Sheriff James Telb said.

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

Deputies responded to the home in the 10200 block of Maumee Western Road on a report of an attempted suicide at 1:11 a.m. As they approached the residence, the barricaded man shot at them through a door. A deputy, who was not identified, was hit with shrapnel and is expected to fully recover, authorities said.

A SWAT team entered the house at 3:57 a.m. and reportedly found the man dead.
