The 19-year-old man killed in West Toledo Thursday night died of a single gunshot wound, an autopsy showed.

Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey said Deontae Allen, of Toledo, was shot in the torso from the back. She ruled his death a homicide.

Dr. Pandey said no bullet was recovered from the teen's body.

Toledo Blade Homicide Report

Mr. Allen and Limmie Reynolds, 20, of Toledo, were sitting in a parked car in the 1900 block of Fernwood Avenue at about 10 p.m. Thursday when they were approached by a group of men, at least one armed with a gun.

Mr. Allen and Mr. Reynolds got out of the car and started running, possibly upon seeing a firearm. Mr. Allen was shot and died in a backyard in the 1400 block of Waverly Avenue; Mr. Reynolds was also shot, reportedly in the chest, and found by police on the front porch of a different home in the same block.

Mr. Reynolds was taken to Toledo Hospital for treatment; a spokesman said the hospital had no information about a patient by that name.

Police have not named any suspects or given a possible motive.

Mr. Allen is the 26th homicide victim in Toledo this year.
