Ypsilanti, Mich. man charged with first-degree child abuse in 1-year-old boy's death


HUDSON, Mich. -- A Ypsilanti, Mich. man has been charged with first-degree child abuse stemming from injuries to a 1-year-old Hudson boy, who later died at Toledo Children’s Hospital.

The child, LeRoy Beals, was seriously injured about 8:45 p.m. Monday at his Division Street home where his mother’s boyfriend, Timothy Martin, 25, was babysitting. Hudson police said Mr. Martin was arrested Wednesday, and the toddler died that evening.

Mr. Martin is being held in the Lenawee County jail. A funeral service for the young Beals is set for 12:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson, according to an obituary published in the local newspaper.
