A Toledo man was placed on one-year probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine after entering a plea to attempted casino cheating Monday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Jeffery Burks, 35, of 1331 Peck St., pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement that lowered the charge to a first-degree misdemeanor. He admitted to Judge Gene Zmuda that he pulled back a $25 bet at the blackjack table in Hollywood Casino Toledo on July 12 after the wager lost.

Mr. Burks said he was wrong when he took the bet off the table and, after being confronted by casino security, returned the wager to the dealer. In addition to being banned from the casino by security, Mr. Burks was ordered by Judge Zmuda to have no contact with the business.

Judge Zmuda warned Mr. Burks that if he does not abide by the terms of his probation, he could face six months in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.
