About 1,100 customers in a mostly residential part of South Toledo lost natural gas service today because of a valve failure at a regulator station, Columbia Gas announced.

Gas service was lost in the afternoon in an area bound by Glanzman, Byrne, and Schneider roads and South Detroit Avenue, the utility reported.

Service restoration will require that residents provide access to their homes for Columbia Gas crews to turn the gas back on and re-light appliances. Notice will be left at unoccupied homes with a phone number to call to arrange for a crew visit.

Columbia Gas suggested that people whose gas service is unrestored leave a porch light on.
