Oregon police are continuing to investigate an early morning school bus crash that sent 10 people to the hospital Thursday.

Nine Clay High School students and the driver of a second vehicle involved were treated at Mercy St. Charles Hospital, officials said.

The crash, reported at 7:39 a.m., occurred when a westbound vehicle on Seaman Road went into the left lane and struck a school bus carrying 28 students head on, Chief Mike Navarre said.

“The bus driver did a nice job of trying to avoid the accident,” Chief Navarre said, adding that the school bus driver tried to shift into the right lane to avoid the collision.

A second crash involving a school bus and another vehicle was reported at 7:57 a.m. at Starr Avenue and Wynn Road, the dispatcher said.

The school bus in that crash was empty; no injuries were reported.
