ST. LOUIS -- Police today arrested a 25-year-old St. Louis man for the robbery and shooting of a University of Toledo medical student there on a medical internship.

Halley Briglia, 27, a fourth-year student originally from Erie, Pa., was shot at 5:55 a.m. Oct. 24 while walking to her car on her way to work.

She was being treated right after the incident at St. Louis University Hospital for critical injuries. A spokesman said tonight that the hospital did not have a patient by that name.

Joseph Newman is charged with assault, robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action, according to St. Louis police.

Police had originally believed Vincent Newman, 24, of St. Louis, was responsible for the shooting. The Newmans are brothers.
