PALMYRA, Mich. — Authorities were trying to identify a woman’s body found Friday in a Palmyra Township field.

Lenawee County Sheriff Jack Welsh said the farmer reported at 1:20 p.m. he had found the body in a field on Scott Highway near Station Road. The body appears to have been there for some time, Sheriff Welsh said, and appeared to be of an adult female, but was too decomposed to determine an age range or race.

Sheriff Welsh said there was no initial indication of how the person died, but foul play is believed because of evidence found near the body. He would not elaborate.

The body was taken to Bixby Medical Center, Adrian, for an autopsy.
