NAPOLEON -- The man who Napoleon police said had possibly taken a Defiance woman against her will from a Napoleon residence is in custody, authorities said today. The woman has been found and is safe.

Gilberto Villarreal Jr., 27, was arrested around midnight, in Paulding County, on a warrant for the aggravated burglary, according to Napoleon police. No other charges have been filed at this time.

Natalie Rose McCoy, 24, of Defiance, believed to have been taken against her will, is safe and with relatives, police said.

Napoleon City Police Monday were looking for Ms. McCoy after a man police identified as Mr. Villarreal entered a residence where Ms. McCoy was inside.

Police responded just after noon Monday to a report of a gunshot at 56 Sunnydale Lane in the Valley Brook Estates mobile home park in Napoleon. The homeowner told officers an unknown male entered his residence through a window and assaulted a female inside.

The homeowner told police he tried to help, but the man had a shotgun. Police said the gun was fired as the homeowner wrestled with the man. The man regained control of the gun, and the homeowner escaped through a window, police said.

Authorities searched the residence and no one was found inside. Police said it’s possible Ms. McCoy was taken against her will.

Police said no injuries have been reported in the incident.
