Fostoria boy struck by pickup

FOSTORIA — A 9-year-old Fostoria boy was transported to a Toledo hospital after he was struck by a vehicle today on State Rt. 18 on the city’s southeast side, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Mavin Hamilton darted from behind a building about 5:30 p.m. into the path of a pickup driven by George Tucker, 74, of Fostoria. He was taken to Fostoria Community Hospital and later flown to Toledo Hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said. A hospital spokesman said he was listed in critical condition.

Troopers said Mr. Tucker was southbound on Route 18 near Lytle Street when the boy ran southwest across the highway. Mr. Tucker was not hurt.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident and charges are pending, troopers said.
