FOSTORIA — A 9-year-old Fostoria boy was taken to a Toledo hospital after a vehicle struck him Thursday on State Rt. 18 on the city’s southeast side, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Mavin Hamilton darted from behind a building about 5:30 p.m. into the path of the pickup driven by George Tucker, 74, of Fostoria. He was taken to Fostoria Community Hospital and later flown to Toledo Hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said. A hospital spokesman said he was listed in critical condition.

Troopers said Mr. Tucker was southbound on Route 18 near Lytle Street when the boy ran across the highway. Mr. Tucker was not hurt. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and charges are pending, troopers said.
