A Monroe man and a Luna Pier woman were critically injured in separate crashes Thursday morning in Monroe County, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Sheryl A. Witfoth, 37, of Luna Pier was northbound on Telegraph Road north of Erie Road in Erie Township about 7:19 a.m. when her car started off the east side of the road and she overcorrected, sending the vehicle across both lanes into a ditch on the road’s west side, deputies said. The car vaulted and overturned, coming to rest on its passenger side in a private driveway.

Ms. Witfoth was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where she was reported in critical condition.

A little more than an hour later, Rodge N. Armstrong, 60, of Monroe was driving a motor scooter north on Plank Road south of Bigelow Road in Dundee Township when he lost control on a curve and went into a ditch, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Armstrong, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown off the vehicle onto the road’s west edge.

He was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor hospital, where he was reported in critical condition.

Both crashes remained under investigation later Thursday.
