Fire crews who responded to a North Toledo fire on Tuesday called for police backup when they found a marijuana-growing operation in the basement.

More than 30 marijuana plants were found in the 3456 Doyle St. residence, police said.

The fire, which caused $25,000 in damage, was reported at 1:59 a.m., fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said. No one was home at the time, he said.

The home, owned by Richard Rodriguez of Fairview Drive in Toledo, was built in 1916. The property is valued at $27,600, according to the Lucas County Auditor's Web site.

No arrests were made.
