A Toledo man thought he was being pulled over by a city police officer in an unmarked vehicle today, but was then robbed by an armed suspect.

Earnest Tarver, Jr., 65, was driving near Hamilton Street and Brown Avenue, in the central city, when a dark-colored vehicle, with a blue light on the dash, pulled up behind him just before 2 a.m., according to a police incident report.

Mr. Tarver pulled over and was approached by a man from the vehicle behind his. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded cash.

After taking the victim's cash, the suspect punched Mr. Tarver in the face and fled on Brown toward Nebraska Avenue.

Police said the victim was not injured.

Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said he did not know if the suspect identified himself as a Toledo police officer.
