5 motorists stopped at Oregon checkpoint

Five drivers were ticketed, though none for drunken driving, at a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night in the 2800 block of Navarre Avenue, Oregon police reported.

During the checkpoint, run from 9:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. Sunday by participants in the Lucas County OVI Task Force, 538 vehicles were checked, of which 28 were diverted for further inspection.

Two drivers were cited for not having valid licenses, one was cited for operating under suspension, and two were ticketed for having expired plates.

Perimeter patrols stopped two additional drivers who were arrested for outstanding warrants.

Agencies participating in the detail included the Oregon, Northwood, and Ottawa Hills police departments, the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Highway Patrol, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
