2 men shot in separate incidents in Toledo

Two Toledo men were shot in separate incidents overnight, police said today.

Roberto Pecina, 37, was shot once in his right arm at about 12:50 a.m. on the city's east side.

Mr. Pecina, who was shot at 1316 Front St., left the business and told police he saw someone standing next to his van.

The man next to his van asked, “Are you messing with my girl?” and reportedly shot at the victim several times, striking him once, police Sgt. Tim Noble said.

The man was taken to a local hospital; his condition was not available.

Sunday evening, George Givens, 71, was shot outside of a North Toledo home, in the 100 block of Everett, after he arrived home from Christmas shopping.

Witnesses told police that two men approached Mr. Givens and a woman, robbing Mr. Givens of $300, Sergeant Noble said.

Mr. Givens was shot once in his left leg and was taken to an area hospital; his condition was not available.

No arrests have been made in either shooting.

In an unrelated shooting from November, police arrested two men early today.

Terrance Allen, 20, and Lamondre Gaston, 22, were each charged with improper discharge of a firearm and two counts of felonious assault.

Police allege that the suspects shot at Delano Wellington and Christopher Bates on Nov. 6 while the victims, who were not injured, were standing on a porch in the 1000 block of Avondale Avenue.

The motive for the shooting is unclear; both suspects are to be arraigned today in Toledo Municipal Court.
