Otsego High student arrested for making threats of violence

An Otsego High School student was arrested today for allegedly making threats of violence at school.

The student was charged with inducing panic and disorderly conduct, according to Otsego Superintendent Adam Koch. He was arrested by Bowling Green police after a warrant was issued earlier today.

Mr. Koch said school administrators learned on Friday that there were possible comments made about violence that could occur at Otsego High School Dec. 21. School officials contacted the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and worked with law enforcement officers over the weekend.

A meeting for parents and staff was held Sunday night to respond to concerns, Mr. Koch said, and today he and high school Principal Jeff Snyder met with staff and high school students. Administrators encouraged students to come forward with any information they had about the alleged threats.

Mr. Koch said the student was arrested based on "credible information" about threats he allegedly made last week at the high school.

“The safety of all our students continues to be a high priority of the Otsego Local Schools,” Mr. Koch said in a news release.

Additional deputies were at all of the district’s buildings today, he said, and will continue to be there all week.
