2nd store hit by holdup attempt in LaSalle Twp.

MONROE — For the second time since Sunday, a man wielding a large knife has attempted a holdup of a LaSalle Township store, officials said.

Tuesday’s incident was at Midway Liquor Store, 12240 S. Dixie Hwy. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a robbery attempt occurred sometime after 10 a.m.

A man went into the store holding a sheathed knife up to his chest and told a clerk he was robbing the store, officials said.

The clerk pulled out a gun and ordered the suspect to stop.

The suspect fled on foot and got into the passenger side of a dark-colored Chrysler PT Cruiser. Nothing was taken, according to the report.

The man was described by authorities as white, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 150 pounds, with a thin build.

On Sunday, Fred’s Cash and Carry at 12989 South Telegraph Rd. was robbed by a man with a knife.

The suspect was described by authorities as white, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and with a medium build.

Police report that he also was seen getting into the passenger side of a dark PT Cruiser after fleeing from the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
