Charges against a Toledo woman accused of assaulting her 6-month-old son were upgraded to murder Wednesday after the baby died of his injuries.

Amanda Bacon, 25, of 504 W. Alexis Rd. was held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $1 million bond after arraignment Wednesday morning in Toledo Municipal Court.

Ms. Bacon initially was charged with felonious assault and child endangering for allegedly throwing her son, Avery Glynn Bacon, against a hard surface, causing multiple skull fractures and brain damage, police said. Both of those charges were superseded Wednesday by the murder count.

The baby was pronounced dead at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor about 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to court records.

Officials said the boy was kept on life support until vital organs could be removed and donated.

Through a hospital spokesman, the boy’s family declined to be interviewed.

The investigation into the boy’s death is ongoing.

Police say it remains unclear exactly when the abuse occurred, and that they can be no more specific beyond stating the infant was thrown against a hard surface.

Police officials said there was a time lapse from the time the assault occurred to when the baby was taken to Mercy St. Anne Hospital at 12:32 a.m. Monday. The baby was transferred to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center before being flown to the Ann Arbor hospital.

Several officials accuse Ms. Bacon of leaving her apartment after the assault to “have a good time.” The officials declined to say where Ms. Bacon was during that time or what she was doing.

Police said Ms. Bacon was not “formally employed,” but said she worked in “adult entertainment” — about which they also declined to elaborate.

On her Facebook page, which was apparently removed from the social networking site, she alluded to working at Kisses Showgirls, a West Toledo strip club.

A man who answered the phone at Kisses on Wednesday morning said he could not verify whether Ms. Bacon had ever worked there but said he personally, did not recognize the name.
