FBI searches BG store for counterfeit merchandise
12/21/2012BOWLING GREEN -- Federal agents in search of counterfeit merchandise searched a sports memorabilia store at the Woodland Mall today.
FBI Special Agent Vicki Anderson said search warrants were executed about noon at Spindletop Sports Zone at the mall, at trailers behind the store, and at the Toledo home of the business owner, Richard Schmidt.
Ms. Anderson said agents seized anything they suspected was counterfeit as well as financial records for the business. The targeted merchandise was not sports memorabilia, she said, but things like apparel and handbags.
“It might have been a jersey supposedly made by Nike and it’s not,” she said. “These are goods from overseas that are not authentic.”
