TEMPERANCE -- A Toledo man was shot and killed early this morning during what may have been an attempted robbery at a mobile home park in Temperance, Monroe County Sheriff's officials said.

Investigators said that the owner of the home where the incident occurred has been taken into custody and charged with open murder but that the investigation is ongoing. The department did not release the names of either the 46-year-old deceased or the homeowner, who is in his 30s. A white female, who investigators believe was also on scene, is being sought.

Sgt. Heath Velliquette said that he responded to a call of shots fired at about 5:20 a.m. in the Inverness Community off Lewis Avenue. When responding to the address in the 200 block of Heather Street, deputies found an unresponsive "subject laying in the street," the sergeant said.

The homeowner was taken into custody without incident, he added.

"We believe with the information we have that there was some type of previous contact with the victim of the shooting and the homeowner," Sergeant Velliquette said. "...The initial investigation shows that there may have been a robbery that may have gone bad but we cannot confirm that at this time."

The sergeant said that Monroe County is working with Toledo police to locate the female suspect.
