Fire breaks out at Grand Rapids plant

GRAND RAPIDS -- A fire started today just after midnight at the Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. facility near the Henry-Wood County line, just north of State Rt. 6 in Grand Rapids.

At least 16 workers evacuated from the facility at 15180 Henry Wood County Line Road, authorities said.

Fire keep crews from several departments, including Grand Rapids, Bowling Green, and McClure, Ohio were at the scene through most of the early morning hours, the Wood County Sheriff's office said.

Pioneer Hi-Bred, provides seeds to farmers in more than 90 countries. Pioneer Hi-Bred is a subsidiary of DuPont, a science-based products and services company.

There were no injuries immediately reported.
