16 employees flee fire at Grand Rapids plant

GRAND RAPIDS, Ohio — A fire that started just after midnight at the Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. facility near the Henry-Wood County line caused at least 16 workers to evacuate.

The plant is at 15180 Henry Wood County Line Rd. Fire crews from departments including Grand Rapids, Bowling Green, and McClure, Ohio, were at the scene through most of the early morning hours, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office said.

Details on the fire’s cause or its location in the plant were unavailable Sunday night. A damage estimate also was unavailable.

Pioneer Hi-Bred provides seeds to farmers in more than 90 countries. Pioneer Hi-Bred is a subsidiary of DuPont, the U.S. chemical company.

No initial injuries were reported.
