Bond denied for suspect arraigned in shooting death at Bedford Twp. mobile home park
1/1/2013MONROE — The man accused in the weekend fatal shooting of a Toledo man at a Bedford Township mobile home park was arraigned Monday in the Monroe County jail, sheriff's deputies said.
Thomas Wallace, 32, was denied bond and will remain in the county jail. He is scheduled to appear on Wednesday in Monroe County District Court.
He is charged with open murder in the shooting death of Ronald Roth, 46, who was found about 5:20 a.m. Saturday outside Mr. Wallace's home in the 200 block of Heather Street.
Detective Sgt. Heath Velliquette of the sheriff’s office said Mr. Roth was shot multiple times. Mr. Wallace was found outside his home and was taken into custody by deputies.
Sergeant Velliquette said a woman who is believed to be a witness to the shooting is wanted for questioning. She fled the residence in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, which Toledo police found Monday in the 5900 of Benalex Drive in Toledo.
Toledo police and Michigan State Police are assisting the sheriff's office in the investigation.
According to Toledo Municipal Court records, Mr. Roth had two recent arrests in the city for drug-related incidents.
He was arrested on Oct. 31 after officers found him with a small amount of cocaine during a traffic stop.
He pleaded no contest to an amended charge of attempt to commit an offense, but hadn’t been sentenced on the first-degree misdemeanor conviction.
Toledo police charged Mr. Roth with possession of drug paraphernalia after police stopped him for a traffic violation on Dec. 7 in the 900 block of East Alexis Road.
Officers found a home-made crack pipe in his pocket and suspected heroin syringes were on the front passenger seat, a court affidavit said.
He was scheduled to appear on Wednesday in municipal court.
