Man killed in Sylvania Township crash

A Toledo man was killed when a car and a sport utility vehicle collided Monday on Central Avenue at McCord Road in Sylvania Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Clement Schneider, Jr., 86, who was driving the SUV, was taken to Flower Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the patrol's Bowling Green post.

Mr. Schneider was driving west on Central about 6:20 p.m. when he failed to yield at a red turn light at McCord. He started turning south onto McCord when his SUV was struck in the right side by a car driven by Garret Dennis, 27, of Toledo who was eastbound on Central, troopers said.

Mr. Schneider was not wearing a seat belt; Mr. Dennis was, according to the patrol.

Mr. Dennis suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
