IDA, Mich. -- An all-terrain vehicle driver trying to dislodge a car stuck in the snow was hit by a vehicle that drove off the road, the Michigan State Police reported.

The ATV driver, 58,  was taken to Mercy Memorial Hospital and underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries, troopers from the Monroe post said. His name and condition were not released.

Troopers said the man was aboard a four-wheel ATV on Ida East Road east of Lewis Avenue about 6:40 p.m. when he was struck by a westbound vehicle. Evidence at the scene indicated that the hit-and-run vehicle was a dark Ford Ranger from model years 1993 through 1997, troopers said. It sustained front-end damage.

Troopers asked anyone with information about the crash to call the Monroe post.
