A baby girl delivered by emergency cesarean section after a traffic crash Thursday died of blunt-force trauma to the head, according to preliminary results of an autopsy Monday.

The baby, named Melissa Kominek, was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m. Sunday at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, about 57 hours after the crash that killed her mother, Rachel Kominek.

Mrs. Kominek’s husband, Dustin Kominek, 24, was driving on a snow-covered U.S. 20 in Perrysburg Township when he lost control of his vehicle. The Komineks’ car slid sideways and was struck in the passenger side by an oncoming car.

The baby was delivered in an ambulance before being flown to the hospital.
