University of Toledo officials met with students today to discuss the fatal on-campus stabbing of a student during winter break.

Little new information was provided during the discussion, hosted in the Student Union, although University of Toledo police Chief Jeff Newton said no one should assume they know what happened between Josiah Galat and Erik Littleton during the Dec. 19 altercation.

Mr. Galat, 20, of Mansfield, died of two stab wounds, one to each side of his neck. The death was ruled a homicide.

Mr. Littleton, 19, of Detroit, was recently released from Toledo Hospital where he was treated for "very serious, critical injuries," Chief Newton said.

"He very easily could have died," the chief said.

No charges have been filed in the assault.

The town hall was attended by several dozen students, faculty, and staff.

Afterwards, several students said they were generally satisfied with the university's response and the information that has been provided to this point.
