Bond set at $1 million for suspect in mutilation murder

A Toledo man accused of mutilating a woman's body was arraigned today in Toledo Municipal Court.

James Millard Day, Sr., 66, was ordered to be held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $1 million bond. He is charged with one count of murder.

In an affidavit, police state that Day, of 2519 Auburn Ave., was in Joan Watson's apartment, 3118 W. Sylvania Ave., overnight drinking and using drugs. Police also report that the suspect had blood on his hands and clothing, including inside his pants pocket; the suspect told police he was the only other person in Ms. Watson's apartment.

Ms. Watson's body was found with multiple stab wounds and "other injuries" on her kitchen floor early Sunday, and reported to police at 9:25 a.m. by a caller who reported finding a naked, mutilated body. The victim was pronounced dead at 9:32 a.m.

Sources reported that one of the victim's breasts was cut off and her abdomen was cut open.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.
