Boy shot in ankle in East Toledo

A boy was taken to Mercy St. Charles Hospital today with a gunshot wound to an ankle, police said.

A woman claiming to be the boy's mother flagged down an officer somewhere in North Toledo and said her son was shot and lying on railroad tracks near Dearborn and Kelsey avenues at about 3:40 p.m.

Officers were going to follow the woman, but she reportedly took off while driving on I-280, police said.

Officers responding to the reported scene were searching the tracks but the boy was not there.

The boy, just before 4 p.m., arrived at the hospital.

The circumstances of the shooting and the victim's name and exact age were not immediately known.
