A Chicago man was injured when the car he was driving ran into a tractor-trailer that had just crashed on the Ohio Turnpike in Maumee early today, closing the eastbound lanes to traffic for three hours, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

William Eyre, 52, was taken to University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, following the 1:40 a.m. collision, troopers at the patrol's Swanton post said. His condition was not available late today.

Mr. Eyre was eastbound when he struck the trailer of a semi that had crashed and was blocking the eastbound lanes, troopers said. Truck driver Kenny Ulloa, 23, of New York, was not injured.

The semi had been westbound on the turnpike when, for reasons still under investigation, it crossed into the eastbound lanes, struck a guard rail, and overturned, troopers said.
