A traffic violation Monday in central Toledo initiated a brief police pursuit that ended when the pursued car struck another vehicle, sending two Toledo men to an area hospital, Toledo police said.

Sharon Roscoe, 24, the driver of the pursued vehicle, and Matthew Breckler, 30, the driver of the other vehicle, were taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said. A hospital spokesman said she had no information about persons by those names.

Sergeant Heffernan said police tried to stop a car about 10:50 a.m. at City Park Avenue and Nebraska Avenue. Police gave chase when the car took off but failed to stop it until it crashed into Mr. Breckler’s vehicle at Collingwood Boulevard and Hamilton Street, the sergeant said.

A passenger in the pursued vehicle ran from the scene as the driver was being apprehended, Sergeant Heffernan said. Police did not know who the passenger was or why he fled, he said.

A felony charge of fleeing and eluding police against Mr. Roscoe was pending his release from the hospital, the sergeant said.
