A Toledo man was shot when two men tried to rob him on the street in South Toledo, authorities said.

Codey Standish, 20, was taken to Toledo Hospital, Toledo police said. He was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

Police responding to a report of a person shot arrived about 7:45 p.m. on Monday and found Mr. Standish suffering from a gunshot wound to his foot at the intersection of Shasta and Southmoor drives, police said.

Mr. Standish told police he was walking from the Speedway gas station at 2172 Arlington Ave. and had just gotten to the intersection of Shasta and Southmoor when two men approached him, with one of them pointing a gun at him. Mr. Standish went on to say that he then grabbed the gun and pulled it down, at which time it discharged, shooting him in the right foot.

The assailants then fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to a police report.

The report describes the men as black, between 21 and 25 years old, and dressed in all black.

There was no word of arrests.
