FREMONT -- A Fremont man was killed and a Rocky Ridge woman was injured early today when a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer rig collided at U.S. 20 and Sandusky County Road 128 just northwest of this community, closing U.S. 20 westbound, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Daniel Magers, Jr., 30, the driver of the pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol's Fremont post.

Shannon McGrew, 29, his passenger, was taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital and was later flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Mr. Magers was driving south on Road 128 in Sandusky Township at 2:13 a.m. when for unknown reasons he ran a stop sign at U.S. 20 and struck a semi that was westbound on U.S. 20, according to the patrol. The impact threw Mr. Magers and Ms. McGrew from the pickup, troopers said.

Russell Lucas, 53, of Monroe, the driver of the semi, was not injured in the crash, according to the patrol.

The crash remained under investigation.

The westbound lanes of U.S. 20 were closed until further notice.

Fremont is about 33 miles southeast of Toledo.
