A Toledo man was arrested Tuesday after leading police on an early morning chase of a stolen vehicle that ended when it crashed, closing a central Toledo road for much of the day, authorities said.

Khiry Woodmere, 18, of 1127 Palmwood Ave., was charged with failure to comply with an order of a police officer, obstructing official business, receiving stolen property, and trafficking in drugs. He was being held in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment today in Toledo Municipal Court.

A police gang unit attempted to stop the vehicle at Joffre and Foster avenues about 2:30 a.m. The driver initiated a brief pursuit that ended when the vehicle struck a utility pole in the 1600 block of Oakwood Avenue, downing a power line, police said. The driver was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit, officers said.

He was treated at Toledo Hospital for injuries suffered in the crash and arrested upon his release, according to police.

Oakwood between Clinton Street and Smead Avenue remained closed through the afternoon.
