18-year-old killed in crash in Ottawa Hills

An 18-year-old Ottawa Hills man was killed in a fiery crash in Ottawa Hills early today, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Brian Hoeflinger, who was driving a car, was taken to Toledo Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the patrol's Toledo post.

Mr. Hoeflinger was driving south on Edgehill Road about 12:30 a.m. when he drove off the west side of the road, troopers said. The car struck a tree and caught fire.

He was using seat belts, troopers said. The crash remains under investigation.

Mr. Hoeflinger, a senior at Ottawa Hills High School, played golf for the school. In December, he finished 34th in the Division III state golf tournament.
