Monroe County man found dead in basement

CARLETON, Mich — A Carleton, Mich., man was killed Sunday morning and another man was in custody following an argument inside the victim's home in Ash Township, just east of the I-275 interchange of Carleton-Rockwood Road in Monroe County.

Sheriff's detectives said they were called at 11:27 a.m. to a home in the 1100 block of Carleton-Rockwood Road about dead man.

The body of David C. Killian, 50, the homeowner, was found at the bottom of  the basement stairs, where he was pronounced dead. 

Detectives said Mr. Killian and another man, who authorities have not publicly identified, got into an argument, during which Mr. Killian was assaulted. It was unclear whether Mr. Killian was pushed or fell down the steps.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with open murder pending arraignment.
