Oregon council members learned last week that the city is losing two police officers.

Mayor Mike Seferian said Detective Randy Jacobs will retire April 4, after serving on the force for 27 years.

Also, Jeremy Sheeks, a probationary officer, recently submitted his resignation after joining the department four months ago, the mayor announced at the council meeting.

Mr. Sheeks, who is a 2010 graduate of the Ohio Basic Peace Officers Training Academy at Owens College, said in his resignation letter that he was a better fit in Wood County.

Administrator Michael Beazley said he is working diligently to fill the vacancies and recently obtained a fresh list of applicants from the Civil Service group to begin the process.
